Frequently Asked Questions:

1. How much does furniture cost?

Our appointment is free.

2. I have an appointment scheduled with theExchange – How do I get more information?

Contact your advocate

3. Are the items used?

Most of the items you receive will be used.  We work hard to ensure that the items are of good quality, with no rips, stains, odors, or pet hair.

4. I only need a few items – can I come to theExchange?

Yes, when you have your home visit with your caseworker, mention the items you are needing.

5. Can someone shop with me?

No, we ask you and your advocate to be the only ones to shop for the furniture. You have a limited time to shop, please be prepared. If you are picking up furniture at the time of your appointment you must bring helpers to load the furniture.

(Please note: have your vehicle empty, as you will be taking all the smaller items with you at the time of appointment)

6. Can you deliver to my house/apartment?

We ask you to brainstorm with your case manager, family, and friends on how you can get furniture to your home first. If you have no options, we have volunteers to assist with moving the items for you. We only deliver large items to La Crosse, Onalaska, Town of La Cresent.

7. How do I qualify?

You must have an advocate – and if together you determine that theExchange is a good resource for you for furniture and household goods, we can help you out. Your advocate must contact us to set up arrangements.

8. Can I come to theExchange again?

Our mission is to provide the basic home essentials needs to give you a start. We encourage you to shop for all needed items during your first appointment. You cannot shop repeatedly for additional or replacement items. When you experience hardships that result in the loss of home furnishings previously acquired at theExchange, you are permitted to shop at theExchange for additional household items.

9. What if you don’t have the item(s) I want?

Our local community provides us with tremendous support in the form of donated items.  Because we are a     donation-based organization, occasionally we may not have an item you are looking for.  You will still receive most items necessary for a comfortable and functioning home at each appointment.  We are unable to accommodate “rain-checks” for unavailable items.
